The Bulls will head into the opening round of the Wagga cricket season with a spring in their step after securing the services of the two well-performed cricketers.
Lachlan, a talented off-spinner with grade cricket experience in Sydney, is in Wagga for university and has linked with Lake Albert.
His brother Nic, a top order batsman and part-time wicketkeeper, has also come on board and will travel from Crookwell to play with the Bulls.
Both represented their state at junior level with Lachlan even making an Australian under 15 team.
Lake Albert captain Kurt Robertson is thrilled to welcome the Skelly brothers on board.
“I seen Lachie bowl at training and thought I better do some background on him. It didn’t come up too bad so I thought we better try to jump on him,” Robertson said.
“So we tried to secure his services, which we did, and it wasn’t necessarily easy either because RSL already had their foot in the door a little bit.
“We were able to offer his brother a spot as well. Nic wanted to come and play with Lachie for a year so we were able to accommodate that as well.
“It’s pretty hard to pick up two good quality players...so we’re pretty happy to get two in the one year.”
The Skelly coup put the icing on the cake off a strong off-season for the reigning premiers, who have also welcomed Jesse Hampton back from West Wyalong and Adam Newcombe from Wagga City.
With Lachie Kendall and Ryan Jamieson away for Saturday’s season opener, Nic Skelly will take the gloves against Wagga RSL.
Robertson is happy with the squad the Bulls enter the new season with.
“We’re going to have healthy competition for spots,” he said.
“It gets spoken about every year but never really comes about but hopefully we’ll be in that position this year.
“Hopefully we can get off to a pretty decent start, that will be pretty important.”
