The Cootamundra co-coach believed his season was over after snapping his ankle against Wagga United in June, but held out hope for a fast-tracked recovery and a potential return in finals.
That hope was shattered after doctors discovered an infection had developed six weeks after Farnsworth first went under the knife.
“I was set to head back to work this week after being confined to bed rest for over a month when they found out,” Farnsworth said.
“Now, I’m set to head back into hospital for more surgery and it’ll be at least another six weeks.
They think I’ll have two more weeks of bed rest and then another four weeks on crutches

The Strikers veteran admitted he was getting restless on the sidelines as his team mates toiled in the face of a mounting casualty list.
“It’s pretty devastating, to be honest, especially if we look at how good we were going at the start of the year,” Farnsworth said.
“We started so well and it was really exciting for the club, but now we’ve got five, six, seven injuries to regular starters plus the blokes who’ve left us and we just can’t compete.
“We’ve worked so hard and it’s tough to see us going the way we have been.”
A top-six finish now looks unlikely for the Strikers after their 2-1 loss to South Wagga on Saturday night.
