A red card to United defender Prince Thompson gave the Strikers a late chance to clinch the match-winning goal but it wasn’t to be as the two mid-table sides duked out a gritty draw.
United skipper Lincoln Weir branded the 1-all draw as “scrappy” but was relieved not to give up points on the road.
“We were missing plenty of players and it got very scrappy at times,” Weir said.
“I think both sides had a few chances go begging … but at least we’re not losing games.”
Cootamundra captain Adam McPhail had a similar view of the game.
“I thought we probably deserved the win, but I’m glad we got something out of it,” McPhail said.
“We’re still getting points and it keeps us right in it.”
