The Hawks dominated from the outset and should have led 2-0 in the 20th minute were it not for a pair of shanks from striker Jake Ploenges.
An injury to Frazer Burns complicated things further for the visiting Lions as Henwood Park mercilessly pressed ahead.
Things soon went from bad to worse when an errant hand brushed the ball near Young’s goal.
Ploenges redeemed himself for the earlier misses with a goal from the spot, handing his side a 1-0 lead at oranges.
The second half saw a more clinical Hawks outfit take to the field and the Lions simply couldn’t keep up, Carl Pideski and Ryan McKenzie wreaking havoc with two goals apiece and Patrick Ireland adding to the misery with a strike of his own.
“The boys played well in the end, it was a good win,” Ploenges said.
It’s not all good news with Ploenges on ice after re-injuring his hamstring.
