“I liked two things,” coach Matt Hard said. “The first thing was we won and the second thing was we got no injuries.”
The Hawks were on from the outset at Gumly, with 11 scoring shots to 1 in the first quarter setting them on track for just their third triple figure total this season.
James Hodges made his presence felt upon return from injury, kicking six goals in his second senior appearance this year, while Jarrod Turner and Danny Bromham had strong games along with the ultra-consistent Tom Pocock.
The Hawks’ next game is against Charles Sturt University, in what shapes as a dress rehearsal for an elimination final next month, but they’ll enjoy a bye first.
“We’re sort of hoping the bye’s come at a perfect time,” Hard said. “We’re coming off a tough month and it hasn’t gone as we would’ve hoped. We’ll rest up, train up and hopefully restock.”
EWK hope to have four players back including midfielders Chris Gordon and Luke Cuthbert and backman Brenton Roberts.
Hard said the upside of their injury crisis has been getting a good look at their depth.
“The boys who have been given the opportunity have been very good so that’ll put us in a good position after the bye,” he said. “We’ll have to make some decisions. But that’s been a positive for us.”
