Heywood won the race many years ago with Prince Of Indies, the first horse his late brother-in-law, Russell Milne, gave him to train.
Decades later, Heywood will be out to win it with Man Of Peace, the last horse he raced with Milne before he passed away last year.
Heywood said it would mean a great deal to win the Narrandera Cup with Man Of Peace.
“It would be lovely,” Heywood said.
Man Of Peace will enter the Cup as one of the major players on the back of a strong win at Albury two starts back.
Simon Miller has opted to ride Rinviata for Matthew Dale so Rebeka Prest will take the ride on Man Of Peace, who has 60 kilograms.
Man Of Peace is unproven over a mile and Heywood is unsure what to expect.
“The only time he’s raced over the mile was at Albury and they took him on 800 from home,” he said.
“He probably needs an easier run, especially with 60 kilograms. He’s feeling good and we’ll hope for the best.”
Heywood believes Rinviata is the horse to beat in an even Cup.
“I think it’s the one to beat. It’s a pretty even spread of horses,” he said.
