Three of the 11 starters in the Class Three Handicap (1400m) are from the Southern District, while another two have won at Wagga this preparation.
Albury mare Lost Command is considered the best of the Southern District hopes at $9.00.
Tumut mare Jounama will be out to go two better than her last-start third at Randwick for Kerry Weir and Megan Taylor and is at $14, while the David Blundell-trained Short is a $26 chance for Michael Heagney.
Nick Souquet will complete with the Southern District line-up when he takes the ride on $7.00 chance Cliff.
Lost Command has only had one start for Albury trainer Ron Stubbs, a second at Canterbury earlier this month.
Stubbs was originally given the horse with the aim of racing in this year’s Country Championships but ran out of time
“When this mare came to us, the original plan was to set her for last season’s Country Championships, but we ran out of time first prep,” Stubbs told Racing NSW.
“She had over 12 months off but there’s certainly no issues.
“She’s well-bred and lightly-raced with three wins. I think she was headed for the breeding barn, but she was thriving so the owners obviously had a change of plans.
“I’ve trained for them over the years and we’re really happy with the way this mare has come up. And she even surprised us at Canterbury.
"She was run off her legs short of her best distance and she closed off really strongly. Her Victorian form, particularly that close Flemington fourth and a Geelong win has her well-placed on Saturday.”
