The Spirit of the Land Festival (SOL) continues to go from strength to strength and will again attract dozens of artists and thousands of visitors to Lockhart on Saturday October 7 and Sunday October 8.
The highlight of the Festival is the $10,000 National Farm Art Sculpture Awards held along the banks of Brookong Lagoon.
Old tools, car parts and disused farm equipment are just some of the bits of discarded scrap metal used to create the sculptural masterpieces.
There is also incredible fine art and photography on display.
With a total prize pool of $20,000 the awards are hotly contested.
The beautiful main street in Lockhart hosts close to 100 market stalls, with local shops open all weekend.
Book into the Paddock to Plate Farm Tours for a first hand insight into food and farming.
Garden lovers will enjoy the trail of gardens, and the helicopter rides are guaranteed to draw a crowd.
This year new life will be breathed into the grand old Greens Gunyah Hotel.
This feature is supported by:
It is being utilized to house the newly established Artisan Centre, offering short workshops for the enjoyment of festival goers.
Next to the sculpture display, the entertainment area at Brookong Lagoon offers great food, live music and plenty of shady seating.
At dusk it’s the perfect place to sit and watch the spectacular fireworks display.
Hot air balloon rides will be drifting over the Lockhart skyline at sunrise each morning, while the popular Lions train will be providing free transport around the town for everyone to enjoy.
Come along and enjoy a fabulous weekend designed for the entire family.
For those travelling from afar there is plenty of available parking for those attending the SOL Festival in Lockhart.
Free caravan and RV overflow parking for the weekend will also be available at Clem Gooden Oval, so spread the word.
The outdoor toilet facilities at the adjoining golf club will be made available, as will the toilet and shower facilities at the Lockhart Ex-Servicemen’s Club.
It would be appreciated if anyone intending to park here contact the Caravan Park Manager, on 0458 205 303 or email caravanpark@lockhart.nsw.gov.au to give organisers an idea of numbers.
The festival first started in 2006 during the worst drought in Lockhart’s history to celebrate resilience of those on the land and has improved and grown ever since.
