The WorkSafe Tasmania investigation into the tragic deaths of six children at Hillcrest Primary School in December is continuing and is expected to take up to a year.

The deaths happened after a gust of wind lifted an inflatable jumping castle into the air during end-of-year celebrations.
A Justice Department spokesperson said WorkSafe Tasmania is working closely with Tasmania Police and the State Coroner to complete the investigation.

"Investigations into serious work health and safety incidents usually take up to 12 months to complete (in some cases longer) with the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 providing a two year limit for prosecutions to be brought," the Justice Department spokesperson said.
"It is expected that this investigation will take between six to twelve months to complete."
Police Commissioner Darren Hine said that Tasmania Police were still investigating on behalf of the Coroner and that it would take some time to get the matter finalised.
"Worksafe Tasmania are continuing to do their investigation as well," he said.
