Acting Superintendent Winston Woodward said it was "disappointing" some members of the community felt they could assault police officers.
"Police were there to effect an arrest and all of a sudden, members of a household and other members have arrived home and started to arrest police immediately," he said.
"There was no communication ... it was violence from the word go."
The acting superintendent said the alleged actions of the offenders would "not be tolerated".
The police officer who was knocked to the ground in the struggle has been treated for minor bumps and bruises but is otherwise uninjured.
In a separate incident on the same day, a 27-year-old man was charged after allegedly hitting a police officer in the face with a backpack full of guns during a chase in Kooringal.
