The 27-year-old was wanted on an outstanding warrant when police saw him driving a vehicle on Menzies Avenue in Kooringal just after 2pm.
Police attempted to pull the man over and when the vehicle stopped he allegedly ran from the scene, with officers pursuing on foot.
During the course of the chase, the male allegedly swung his backpack at a male constable, hitting him in the face, before striking out at the officer.
Officers eventually subdued the man and during a search uncovered a shortened single barrel shotgun, a handgun, ammunition, an electronic stun device as well as various prohibited and prescription drugs.
The man was taken to Wagga Police Station and charged with assaulting a police officer causing actual bodily harm, resisting an officer in the execution of duty, possessing a shortened firearm without authority, possessing an unauthorised firearm, two counts of not keeping a firearm safely, possessing ammunition without holding a licence, possessing a prohibited weapon without permit and two counts of possessing a prohibited drug.
The 27-year-old's outstanding warrant was also executed and he was charged with driving recklessly in a dangerous manner, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without a licence and stalking or intimidating.
He has been refused bail and will appear at Wagga Local Court on Wednesday.
