Chief executive Greg Gangle went to the club in the middle of Wednesday night's wild weather which saw more than 50mm of rain dumped on the city in a couple of hours, and strong winds.
Late Thursday afternoon, with a break in the weather helping the recovery, he was cautiously optimistic of the chances of racing on Friday.
"We're doing everything in our power to put the club back together," Gangle said, with curators Andrew Harrington and Matt King also working overtime.
"There was damage to the club house with glass shattered in our functions room after a sign was blown off from the home straight straight into the glass.
"We lost seven home straight signs, smashed into pieces and blown across the whole club due to that storm.
"There was also some damage to our permanent fencing. We're replacing the permanent fencing with temporary fencing for now.
"Part of the track was also washed away (entering the home straight) just due to the significant amount of rain in such a short period of time."
Gangle said their outlook had improved on Thursday as the repairs got underway.
"At the moment, we are more optimistic. If you'd asked (on Thursday) morning, it wasn't looking good. But a final decision will be made on Friday morning," he said.
The eight-race meeting is due to get underway at 1.19pm.
Wagga races again on Monday at Riverina Paceway. Gangle said if Friday's meeting doesn't go ahead it will be abandoned, rather than postponed.
