LOOK FOR FACTS ABOUT POLICY
I must challenge Robert Hennessy-Hawks statement about the Greens causing bushfires ("No place for party politics", November 24). As full disclosure, I am on the Greens ticket for the Wagga City Council elections.

The Australian Greens bushfires section starts with "The Australian Greens support hazard reduction burns and backburning to reduce the impact of bushfires, when guided by the best scientific, ecological and emergency service advice".
As regards access to national parks, the policy is of restricting vehicles to designated roads only.
I suggest anyone who wants the truth on Greens policy looks at the Australian Greens website: greens.org.au

LET'S NOT DEVALUE HUMAN LIFE
I thank Keith Favell for taking the time to read my letter then to comment on it ("Bill vote a defining moment", November 19).
Keith you seemed to have lapsed into a view that I am religiously indoctrinated. Nothing could be further from the truth. I respect all faiths and respect those who have no faith. I myself do not adhere to any. If you were searching for a word to describe me, use the word " humanist".
The point I make is once you devalue human life you are in danger of getting on a slippery dip and your values collapse as has happened in history. Keith you seem to be struggling with that reasoning. Perhaps the grandkids could help.
Whilst I disagree Keith in what you say I am willing for my children and I to fight and die for your right to say it.
I am proudly a member of the Cochrane Clan. Our chief of many years ago was Lord Thomas Cochrane GCB,10th Earl of Dundonald and 1st Marquess do Maranhao, Rear- Admiral of the Fleet RN ("Master Commander at Sea" " Hornblower" Google) and some would say the greatest sailor to come out of the British Isles (officially that belongs to Nelson).
His Lordship fought and fought against the use of Stocks. He saw them as a cruel instrument of punishment. He won.
We have come a long way in the last 250 years with the abolition of slavery, hangings, public floggings, torture and capital punishment. Let's not get on the slippery dip and devalue human life. Let's use our last breath defending human life from those who devalue it, for example the criminal regimes of years gone by.
With the changes on the laws of abortion I wrote that that would only be the beginning. Tragically I was right.

TWO TRIALS, TWO VERDICTS
Kyle Rittenhouse and the police officer whom shot Jacob Blake in Wisconsin, US stood before two judiciaries. The first was the court of public opinion which promotes the political narrative that society's systems are racist, sexist, bigoted and homophobic. This court found the defendants guilty.
The second type of court they faced was the criminal legal system which is bound by the burden of proof and the presumption of innocence. This court found both defendants not guilty.
It would be beneficial if the first judiciary was abandoned.
