When a local bistro owner thus says that some old dopes like me will need to stop using the coin of the realm for purchases and swap to plastic because "it's a new era that they're going to have to try and learn" ("Birdhouse drops cash in first for city", November 8) what he means is that we'll have to "try to learn"; an unfortunate irony given that "to learn" seems to be the focus.

It's one action being invoked, not two unrelated verbs that need a conjunction to separate them.

Grammar enables meaningful communication and isn't just for those "set in their ways"; although maybe grammar is unlearnable these days.

But, more importantly, at a time when we're told regularly that small businesses have lost oodles of money, are on the brink of collapse and are desperately trying to claw back patronage it is a fascinating thing that some businesses also think it an excellent corporate strategy to exclude potential customers because they want to pay with Australian currency: "Take your money and your set ways elsewhere!"

It certainly sounds like a beneficial business strategy for competitors who can now hang out a shingle saying, "cash accepted here from old fogies set in their ways."

ln response to Councillor Rod Kendall's incorrect and misleading letter of November 9 I wish to correct the misinformation and set the record straight. The 'Watergate' posters are not part of my election campaign.

Peter Thompson, general manager of Wagga City Council, was the person that reported me to the police requesting that action be taken, after he stated publicly there would be no further action. This was confirmed to me by the police at the time. Completely contradictory to what you state.

For the record, Mr Thompson has never contacted or spoken with me ever in relation to this matter and further, has never spoken to me since this occurred in January.

You are accusing me of vandalism, if you are referring to the damaged gates, completely unrelated to my placing of shutters over the drains, then you Cr Kendall are completely wrong and attempting to spread incorrect information about me and that is misleading.

I actually offered to repair the damaged gates free of charge and further offered to purchase the correct items and install them for council, however this offer was rejected.

Your claim that the lake is full and overflowing again due to council repairing what you claim is my vandalism is utterly incorrect, outrageous and a blatant attack on my character. Also, the reason the lake is full is because it rained, and unless you are now professing that you or council are God, you are again misrepresenting the truth.

I was led to believe it was the decision of the whole of council to apply for the agreement with the state government and it was on the back of multiple motions and years of work by one of my own council election group that facilitated the opportunity for the suggestion of trading sewage water for river water.

To use your own words Cr Kendall, "in case you haven't noticed" this is the truth of the matter.
