Attending venues right across the city, people were keen to catch up with friends, dress up in their best outfits, place their bets and enjoy everything that the Melbourne Cup has to offer.
Romano's Hotel owner Mathew Oates was thrilled with the turnout for their seven-course, ticketed long lunch event, with more than 150 booked in.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Having only taken over the venue in May, he is hoping to make this an annual event for Romano's.
"We're hoping to really build a bit of momentum with this this year and see how it goes," Mr Oates said.
"I think now we're starting to get a little bit of certainty that events are going to happen."
People were also gathered at Wagga RSL to watch the race, with some punters travelling from as far as Batemans Bay and Bermagui.
