Rural Fire Service Riverina operations officer Bradley Stewart said crews from the RFS and Fire and Rescue NSW joined forces to prepare for a hazard reduction burn this weekend at Rocky Hill.
"We did some small preparation burning just to work an area that was a little bit more complicated and carried a bit more risk," he said.
"We burnt that our before Saturday.
"Saturday will involve firies from FRNSW, and RFS attending the hill about 10 am, and onwards we will have a drone from Sydney that drips very small incendiaries into the grass areas with the view to start small ignitions."
Mr Stewart said this method provides far greater control over the burn and is a safer option for the firefighters.
He said the adjoining properties had been notified through a letter drop, but Wagga residents could expect to see smoke on Saturday morning.
"The burn will produce high amounts of smoke, and the wind forecast has the smoke being blown out towards Kooringal Road," Mr Stewart said.
"The impact of smoke will be minimal. However, weather conditions can change, and the impact of smoke may also change."
Mr Stewart said anyone concerned could check the Fires Near Me app to see if controlled burns are happening in their area, but if they see a fire that poses a threat to a person or property, call triple zero.
