THIEVES CAUSE RESIDENT GRIEF
Vile thrives broke into my front yard on Saturday night/Sunday morning and stole sentimental garden ornaments and pot plants.

'RISK' TO FREEDOM ON HORIZON
I have a strong belief that the anti-vaxxers who have not had any jabs will be the ones to cause a new rise in cases because they are sitting in the wings waiting to come home from Queensland on December 1.
I know people up there and that's what their plan is, as they believe we've got it under control and they can join in our freedom from December 1.
Please stop this selfish attitude and make it harder for these selfish people to enjoy the freedom the rest of us have worked and waited for.
If we have to mix with them we are in trouble. Keep them in their house.

OUR DEMOCRACY UNDER SIEGE
I would like to thank Graham Gorrel for his fortnightly ruminations on our democracy in his Friday On My Mind column.
Often I am stunned at the sheer incompetence of the federal government, now nearing the end of its third term.
It has become a cliche that 'Slowmo' and his team turn up late and under-prepared.
Mr Morrison is good at playing the 'role' of Prime Minister, of making announcements (often poorly delivered on), of telling people what they want to hear.
He is a very good salesman, but it is usually just marketing and political calculation.
This government's cynicism, opportunism and hypocrisy is both breathtaking and sickening.
Taxpayers' money is not really to be used on rational policy.
Rather, it seems a slush fund to bribe voters, pay interest groups of their choosing, or to help benefactors.
Problems are not so much addressed, as excuses found around them.
It is a triumph of spin over substance, politics over policies. A performance.
When he was Deputy PM, 'MickMac' sometimes seemed to have the brain of a TicTac. Just a tactic? Since then Mr McCormack is normally reasonable.
Luckily we have state governments (of both stripes) to lift us above federal leaning.
Despite the struggle to get a bare minimum national announcement to take to COP26 in Glasgow, NSW, Victoria and SA all have credible policies to halve emissions by 2030. That alone would be a 34 per cent reduction in national emissions.
The problems facing democracy are not just here. We are yet a long way from the psychosis in the US, where the Republican Party, in thrall to the lies of the conman former president, is inventing reasons to blatantly suppress the right to vote.
Sean Topham and Ben Guerin, the marketers behind the Liberal's social media information warfare in our 2019 election, went on to lobby successfully for the Conservatives in the UK.
Sly political cunning has limited the ability to make good policy, and hurt democracy itself. What can Australia usefully take to COP26?
If only we could get a turbine to spin as much and as fast as the PM and his deputy, imagine the potential energy!
After all, that wind always blows.
