This week the Civic Theatre played host to some of Wagga's young storytellers from refugee backgrounds.
The group has been participating in the "Sharing Stories, Sharing Place" theatre program, a partnership between the theatre, Create Hub Riverina and STARTTS which allows the teenagers to develop skills and create a theatre piece which they will perform on the Civic Theatre stage in December.
It's a gentle way to break down barriers and share culture while at the same time upskilling young people in performance, language and drama skills.
It has been an absolute joy to see them on the stage this week, sharing their stories, celebrating their diversity and feeling connected.
We cannot wait to see the final production in December.
Also this week, the team from the Wagga City Library Storytime came into the theatre to use our livestream set up and pre-record some story readings on the stage. It felt like we were all on the set of Playschool for the day.
What a great resource for children to be able to access such professional online resources.
We can't wait to hear more great stories from the library team soon.
And the young enthusiasm will continue next month when the Performance and Design students from CSU present the Bloom Theatre Festival.
Created, directed and performed by the students, the festival celebrates the skills they have gained throughout their university studies in an online livestreamed festival.
The Civic Theatre technical team has been working with the students to pivot from a live event to an online event so they can collaborate one last time as the curtain closes on the Creative Industries courses in Wagga Wagga.
The students have been learning how to use the theatre's livestream equipment and have been able to gain new skills working with the theatre's robotic cameras.
The Bloom Theatre Festival transports you into the world of an apartment building to view the mundane and eccentric lives of its residents.
Experience an eclectic mix of short comedic and dramatic works that could just as easily be happening inside your neighbour's house or apartment.
It's livestreaming on Thursday October 4 at 7.30pm, so to find out more and get tickets to the Bloom Theatre Festival at www.civictheatre.com.au or contact the box office 10am-4pm Monday to Friday on 6926 9688.
