In an internal email, Best & Less head of retail operations Joseph van Dyk informed staff across NSW that from October 18, customers will "need to be fully vaccinated to shop in our stores".
He also stated NSW staff "will be required to be fully vaccinated as well" and asked employees to share their vaccination status with the company.
Mr van Dyk said telling the company your vaccination status was voluntary for employees at this stage however that could change if a public health order requiring staff vaccination is issued.
Best & Less advised these new regulations are being put in place to reflect the NSW government's roadmap for easing restrictions.
The NSW government has said once 70 per cent of the state is fully-vaccinated, only double-jabbed residents and those with medical exemptions will be able to access businesses like restaurants, pubs and cafes, as well as retail and entertainment venues.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The October 18 date for the introduction of the new rules at Best & Less could change depending on when the state hits the 70 per cent double-jabbed milestone.
It is not clear how the retail store will be checking the vaccination status of customers.
Best & Less Group CEO Rodney Orrock said the restrictions will help ensure the safety of those who enter their stores.
"Best & Less is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our team members and customers and will continue to adhere to strict COVID-safe protocols to ensure the safety of everyone in our stores."
The decision has resulted in some people stating they plan to boycott Best & Less and other stores complying with the regulations.
Riverina restaurant Pages on Pine has condemned the incoming NSW government regulations on barring non-vaccinated customers, stating it is their job to "feed people, not police their medical choices."
