The Hawks young gun enjoyed a breakout season this year, highlighted by finishing a close second behind Mitch Haddrill in the Farrer League Player of the Year award, voted weekly by coaches.
Fitzsimmons revealed he was invited to the presentation night originally but does not expect to come out the winner.
"I obviously got the email about finishing top five but I don't really give myself too much of a chance when you've got guys like Jimbo (Lawton) and Mitch Haddrill," Fitzsimmons said.
"Jimbo got injured in the last couple of rounds and Mitch won the Player of the Year award so I'd probably back him as the favourite."
The 22-year-old took his game to a new level at EWK this year, leading their midfield to a second-place finish at the end of the home and away season.
