Long hot summers in the container are over as the brigade opened their own permanent station at Wagga Airport at the weekend.
The Aviation Brigade loads firefighting aircraft and provides radio communication to support firefighters.
The new building is equipped with storage shed, 200,000 litre water tank, helicopter landing pad and rest area for volunteers.
Aerial firefighting was initiated in the Riverina in 2000 and Riverina Zone Manager Superintendent Roger Orr said the station will continue to grow.
"It certainly gives them state-of-the-art facilities to operate from," he said.
"We are now viewed as a strategic asset for the Rural Fire Service."
The brigade has been guaranteed a fixed-wing aircraft during what is sure to be a vicious fire season.
Brigade Captain Wayne Harrison said the facility is sure to boost morale of the 21 registered members of his group.
"This new complex will certainly make it easier for us to carry out any aviation duties," he said.
"Having a brigade home will help build a group of dedicated volunteers as well."
The facility was built from a partnership between the fire brigade and Wagga City Council.
Councillor Alan Brown said council appreciates the partnership it has with the Rural Fire Service and hopes the facility can assist to enhance the protection of a wider area.
"Wagga City Council welcomes this facility as a member of the Wagga aviation community," he said.
