DIRE PREDICTIONS COME TRUE
I read with surprise this morning an article from The Daily Advertiser by Jack Morphet on September 6, 2016.

In my opinion what was predicted in this article has happened in current term of council.
As a current councillor I have witnessed and lived this in public meetings and behind closed doors.
In the 2016 article, Charles Sturt lecturer Troy Whitford said political parties would make council "unworkable and dangerous".
This is very evident to all members of our community how unworkable this term has been, due to topics being filtered down from their party machine to Wagga City Council.
Also in this article critics claim that political parties were using the 2016 election as a means to an end in their bids for more votes at the next state election.
This was also proven correct as Councillor Dan Hayes ran for three state elections and Councillor Vanessa Keenan ran for one state election during this term.
Both Crs Hayes and Keenan would have been responsible for costing rates payers $250,000 in a local byelection if they were successful in their bids to grow their own political profiles.
Mr Whitford also stated that "very few politicians put community issues before party issues". I could share numerous party issues that have been copy and pasted and bought to council.
READ OTHER LETTERS:
If you are asking if I am innocent in making this term unworkable, then the answer would be no. I have played my part but I have found myself having to defend myself from personal attacks (not just from political aligned councillors) while trying to work hard for my community.
I am not writing this letter seeking your support at the next election, just to say look at predictions from Mr Whitford and The Daily Advertiser article and vote independent to make our next term of council workable on real local issues and not for pushing political agendas and personal political profiles.

KEEP ABC FREE OF INTERFERENCE
Keith Wheeler attacks the ABC over its coverage of Fox News and Mr Trump ("ABC's shame v the No. 1 US news channel", The Daily Advertiser, September 6).
Well, conservatives hate scrutiny of any kind. I watch the American PBS news hour (Tuesday to Saturday at 1pm on the SBS).
They present things factually. Their view of Mr Trump is that he is a narcissist, liar and a conman of the worst kind who falsely claims to have won the election.
Fox News (Mr Murdock) continued to report Trump's big lie for a week after the election. The storming of Capitol Hill by Trump supporters was a "wake up call" for American democracy.
I suggest that calls for the ABC to be downgraded are also the same.
Australia needs objective scrutiny of all aspects of our society to remain truely democratic.
Fox News dominates our printed media and has a very right wing bias.
Thank goodness The Advertiser is neutral. Major publications like The Age, SMH, Saturday Paper and the Guardian also have "fair and balanced" reporting.
Above all, let's keep the ABC free of political interference to keep our "democracy" robust.
