Fresh from a fifth placing in her pet event, the 100m breaststroke (SB14), van Rijswijk finished third in her heat in a time of 2:39.10, placing her 12th overall.
It spelled the end of a strong Paralympics debut for the Tumut swimmer and Wagga Swim Club member, who turned 21 on Tuesday.
As expected Van Rijswijk made her move in the breaststroke third leg, and her personal best time of 2:37.49 would have been been fast enough to squeeze into the final in eighth spot.
On Sunday in the 100m breaststroke Van Rijswijk missed out on a podium after a blanket finish for the minor medals, finishing just 0.23 seconds behind Brazilian bronze medallist Beatriz Borges Carneiro.
Van Rijswijk was an automatic selection on the Australian team, but consistent times and a solid display at trials earned her a place on the team.
Before the Paralympics, Van Rijswijk said her goals were to at least make the final eight of her pet event.
"It's minimum making a final in the 100m breaststroke, that's what we're hoping for," she said.
