Wagga MP Dr Joe McGirr said an extension may be "necessary" and he would support it to avoid a second, longer lockdown in the future.
Currently, the statewide lockdown is set to end on August 28.
Sydney will be in lockdown until at least the end of September, and regional parts of the state with COVID clusters are unlikely to have their stay-at-home orders lifted on Saturday.
Deputy Premier John Barilaro has spent the last fortnight advocating for an LGA-by-LGA approach to coming out of lockdown, with certain regions deemed low-risk able to have some freedoms returned sooner than others.

He suggested that further information about a possible extension to lockdown could come as early as Thursday, with the state's crisis cabinet meeting on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the situation.
Dr McGirr is encouraging the government to make an announcement "as soon as possible, based on expert advice" to give people in the regions certainty.
"Lockdowns are hard on everyone and there is no doubt the current restrictions are frustrating," he said, also acknowledging how important it is to limit movement to control the spread of the virus.
"On balance, I think an extension may be necessary and I would support this to avoid the risk of another longer lockdown later."
Rumours swirled on Wednesday about a possible six-week extension to regional NSW's lockdown.
Tweed MP Geoff Provest spoke to the media on Wednesday morning and said "there is a feeling and I'm getting a strong sense out of Sydney that it could be extended for another six weeks here in NSW".
When asked about this on Wednesday, Mr Barilaro said the government hasn't "made any decision around the extension", but acknowledges it "isn't getting better" in the regions.
