In their first game in a month after border bubble issues, the Thunder really put it to the ladder leaders at Greenfield Park on Saturday.
It took the Blues 23 minute to get on the board, and only 12 points separated the two teams at half-time.
However Tumut put on a masterclass in the second stanza with a flourish of long range efforts the highlight of their 46-6 win.
Co-coach Lachlan Bristow was thrilled with how his side responded to being challenged
"The first 20 minutes was very tough, one of the toughest starts we've had," Bristow said.
"It was such a grind as both teams were completing well, we probably were just winning the field possession battle a bit but over time we wore them down and started to cut them up.
"Obviously they haven't played in a while so that probably hurt them but at the same time we really started to turn it on and most of our tries were from our own half.
"There were some freakish efforts there."
Despite Jed Pearce and Ron Leapai forced out of the side due to Canberra's lockdown, Tumut made most of their inroads through the middle.
Among them was Brodie Mirtschin who scored in his first grade debut.
Bristow was pleased with the contributions Mirtschin and Ethan Gilchrist made off the bench after stepping up from the Weissel Cup.
"I couldn't have asked for a better debut from both of those boys," Bristow said.
In a game full of good performances, Bristow was particularly pleased with the impact Mitch Ivill is having at fullback.
He crossed late in the first half to make it 12-0 at the break before going over again to start the second half
"He's a real game breaker and really opened it up for us," Bristow said.
The Blues came through the clash unscathed.
Tumut were set to tackle Temora at Twickenham next Sunday as they look to seal the minor premiership while Albury are drawn to face winless Brothers on the border.
However what impact the statewide lockdown has will be played out during the week.
