Wagga United were able to snare a point from their trip to Griffith on Sunday by claiming a 1-1 draw with the ladder leaders.
It is the second time this season that Wagga United has pushed Hanwood, after closing hard in a 3-2 loss earlier in the year.
Aaron Harley put Wagga United 1-0 ahead with a well-timed header from a set piece corner. Hanwood got the equaliser through a corner of their own, when Joey Schirripa found the back of the net from the cross, via a keeper error, with 10 minutes to play.
Hanwood coach Brian Bertolin said they will use the draw as a learning experience.
"I think (Sunday) we learned a lot about ourselves and to be honest I think things like this are a positive," Bertolin told The Area News.
"It's better to find these things out in a competition game rather than a finals match where elimination is on the line."

Bertolin said not taking their chances cost them.
"It's a bit disappointing we probably dominated the game but we didn't take our chances and so we kept Wagga United in the game," Bertolin told The Area News.
"To their credit they defended really well and they got the goal when they needed to and put us under pressure."
Hanwood are still undefeated and remain five points clear on top of the ladder. Wagga United remain in seventh position and are too far back to challenge for finals with six rounds remaining.
