The Wagga side has managed only 10 points in their last four games after being held scoreless by Southcity on Saturday.
Coach Simon Woolford doesn't hide away from the fact they're behind the best teams in the competition.
"We need everyone playing well and we've got quite a few guys missing so we're not quite good enough to match it with the top teams at the moment," Woolford said.
"It is as simple as that."
Temora are now two points ahead of them in fifth place.
However there is still plenty to play for with a favourable draw to finish the season.
Kangaroos face the two teams below them on the ladder, Albury and Brothers, as well as fourth-placed Gundagai before the finish the regular season with the bye.
On the other hand, Temora takes on the top four teams in the competition.
Woolford hopes Kangaroos can take advantage of their run home, starting with a clash with the Thunder at Equex Centre on Sunday.
"It's a bit of a battle mentally at the moment and it's not good for our confidence but I still believe we aren't that far away really," Woolford said.
"We are keeping in games for different periods but just not capable of doing it for anywhere near 80 minutes.
"It makes it very difficult when you are battling to score points so there is plenty to fix but I can still see the light at the end of the tunnel and we still have some time to turn it around."
Kangaroos had a number of opportunities on Southcity's try line in the first half.
However Woolford thought the side lacked polish to make it count and once the Bulls got on a roll they couldn't change the momentum.

"There is nothing wrong with our effort and it was only 4-0 after 35 minutes but we're just not good enough at the moment," he said.
"We had a few opportunities on their try line but couldn't execute the way we would have liked.
"In some instances we made it quite easy for Southcity, and don't get me wrong they are a good defensive team."
Woolford hopes captain Zac Graham will be back after sitting out the 32-0 loss to Southcity due to the effects of a head knock.
However the likes of Luke Ingram (AC joint), Jake Mascini (knee) and Jordy Little (hamstring) still need more time.
"Our attack is all over the shop at the moment," Woolford said.
"Having key players missing hasn't helped that but we still need to be better than what we have been.
"I know we've played a couple of games in poor conditions - the Temora game and the Tumut game - but our attack just hasn't been there. Full stop.
"It is something we've been working hard on at the moment and hopefully we can get some players back, chalk up some wins and sneak into the five by the end of the year."
Kangaroos scored a 24-18 win when the two teams met on the border earlier this season.
Albury forfeited their clash last week with Gundagai outside the border bubble however Wagga is.
