Kirkby scored her second try for the game to hand Waratahs a 22-17 win over Wagga City at Conolly Rugby Complex on Saturday.
While they remain in third place, the win sees Waratahs sit nine points clear of the Boiled Lollies, who have a game in hand against second placed Albury, and 15 points clear of fifth-placed Ag College.
Albury are four points ahead.
With five games to play before finals, coach Mark Macarthur is pleased with how things are coming together for the side.
"They went out and really wanted to win that one," Macarthur said.
"It was one of those games that we needed to win to keep moving forward with five regular games in the season.
"We needed the points to help seal up our spot."

However Macarthur is looking to work on their cohesion as a side after some individual brilliance got them out of trouble.
Meanwhile Leeton brought up their third win of the season by surprising CSU at Beres Ellwood Oval.
Goal kicking proved to be the difference with both teams crossing for five tries but three conversions helped the Dianas to a 31-27 victory.
Reddies now sit 10 points outside the top four.
They were the only two games of the round with Tumut forfeiting their clash against unbeaten Griffith while Hay didn't make the trip to tackle Albury.
