The Magpies asked some serious questions of the ladder leaders during the second term at Victoria Park, but the Bombers responded with 11 goals to two after the break to record a resounding win.

Star forward James Lawton was at his brilliant best, making the most of the Bombers' midfield work to bag an eight-goal haul.

It was Marrar's seventh straight victory and holds them in good stead ahead of a showdown with North Wagga next Saturday, with the Saints the only team to lower their colours this year.

Marrar coach Shane Lenon was happy to pass a serious test against the Magpies.

"It was a pretty good performance," Lenon said.

"We were certainly challenged early, they got the jump on us and we lifted and met that challenge early and finished the first quarter off pretty strongly.

"The second quarter we turned the ball over a bit going forward and they hurt us on the rebound. They clearly had the better of us in the second quarter but our pressure was at a high level so we kept it in check.

"It was certainly game on."

Lenon believes the Bombers' skill level was the difference after half-time as they broke the game open.

"Our pressure stayed the same and we got a bit more clinical with our skills after half-time, we started to get the ball to the outside," Lenon said.

"I thought our skill level picked up a whole lot more and obviously we were delivering the ball inside our forward 50 a whole lot better, that was the main difference.

"That's credit to The Rock too, they turned up to play and put a lot of pressure on us and to me that was the pleasing part of the game, we absorbed what they threw at us, they're obviously having a pretty good year, they're in the top four for a reason but we absorbed it, came out the other side and ended up having a pretty good win."

TRYC enjoyed some good patches. They kicked the first two goals of the game but the Bombers replied with the next five.

They took control of the second term to only go into the main break trailing by three points.

Marrar were way too good in the second half but injuries did not help the Magpies. They ended up throwing a couple of extra numbers in defence to help limit the damage.

They lost Cody Cool to an ankle injury in the first term, before Riley Budd (ankle) and Harry White (groin) limped from the field in the third. Dylan Cook was also hampered by a hamstring injury.

Harry Reynolds was superb for Marrar at centre-half-back, rivalling Lawton for best-on-ground honours.

Nick Molkentin enjoyed a big game in the ruck, while midfielders Jackson Moye, Chris O'Donnell and Jed Jenkins enjoyed big games.

Todd Hannam and Aiden Ridley tried hard for TRYC.
