PRAISE FOR HOSPITAL WORKERS
A letter of thanks to the staff at the emergency department at the hospital. Only days ago we had a very good hearing from particularly Dr Cheney and he was so thorough in his diagnosis and testing. The nurses were just great. It was a very busy Saturday night and we were there until late but extremely thorough work was done by the staff. Thank you.

CREDIBILITY GOES ON THE LINE
Al Gore was one of the first so-called climate experts when he announced to the world that all the ice at the North Pole would be gone causing massive increases in ocean levels. By the way Al has recently purchased a sea level Island for several million dollars. Credibility - Zip Then we had Tim Flannery who advised that the dams would never fill again, and rising oceans would flood low lying areas. Tim has subsequently purchased an expensive ocean front property on the NSW coast. Credibility - Zip
Next came the Victorian Minister for Water Lisa Neville who advised us there was no sense in building more dams as there would never be enough rain to fill them. Perhaps she should visit Gippsland and see the devastation that the recent floods have created. Credibility - seriously dinted.
Then we have the problem with carbon in the atmosphere, that stuff that our trees breathe in, and then breathe out wonderful oxygen, you know the stuff we need to breath to stay alive. Oh, and that carbon stuff also gets into our oceans and stops them becoming acidic and toxic to all the fish and other ocean dwellers. Climate science or science fiction? You be the judge.

FORGOTTEN FARMERS SUFFERING
Congratulations to federal Environment Minister Sussan Ley on her efforts to protect our precious koalas. I agree that we should consider whether the threatened species status of our koalas should be raised from 'vulnerable' to 'endangered'.
Likewise, I commend her efforts to protect the Great Barrier Reef, which is another Australian icon. However, there is one 'threatened species' under Ms Ley's watch which continues to get little or no attention.
I'm talking about the irrigation farmers, in particular those who frequent the lands of the mid-Murray region in southern NSW.
Federal representative in Canberra for this 'threatened species' is none other than the federal Environment Minister. So I would like to ask: Why isn't she putting more effort into their protection, instead of the feel-good koalas and reef? Don't get me wrong, I fully support all efforts that protect Australia's iconic animals and environments. However, I also see human beings who have worked their land for generations, putting food on the table across our nation, become vulnerable because there is a distinct lack of government support.
The Murray-Darling Basin Plan is an unmitigated disaster. As a consequence we have the livelihoods of farmers threatened, as is their ability to produce the staple foods that we rely on. At the same time we have significant environmental damage caused by unnatural and damaging river flows.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if Ms Ley made a public statement to indicate her government was going to do something to protect both the farmers and the environment that the Basin Plan is ruining.
