GREATER Hume Shire Council will receive $2500 from the people of Wagga.Following the destructive fires that swept through Walla and Gerogery on December 17 last year, Wagga City Council decided to support residents who had lost everything. The donation was approved at this week's council meeting via a mayoral minute from mayor Kerry Pascoe.Greater Hume mayor Denise Osborne had written to Cr Pascoe asking for financial assistance in helping families and councillors backed the idea unanimously."We've been asked to help assist Greater Hume Shire Council by donating to the public appeal for the families devastated by the recent bushfires and council is in a position to do so," Cr Pascoe said. Cr Garry Hiscock backed the idea."It would be a great idea to help struggling families and promotes good relations with our close neighbours," he said. During the discussion, Cr Lindsay Vidler also suggested sending a donation to assist people similarly affected by fires in the Tumbarumba Shire Council. Although the Tumbarumba council had not requested any help, council was open to the idea and Cr Pascoe said there was still room in the budget should such a request be sent.
