The Blacks had scored bonus point wins in each of their nine wins so far this season but struggled to make inroads against their Wagga rivals.
Ua Ravu crossed for a double but their 15 points was their lowest score since a 20-7 win over Waratahs to start their campaign.
Waratahs coach Mark Macarthur was particularly pleased with their defensive work.
He thought how the team defended around the ruck really paid dividends in thwarting Griffith's style.
"It was a tough game and a very physical game," Macarthur said.
"We always expect that against Griffith, who are the real top-tier team at the moment."

However the draw still sees them in third place, four points behind Albury and five above Wagga City.
The two teams clash on Saturday.
"City is always a tough game and now that we're getting to the latter part of the season the ladder really does come into play," Macarthur said.
The Boiled Lollies come into the clash after a 51-5 victory over winless Hay.
Meanwhile Albury ended Ag College's four-game winning run with a 15-0 victory at Beres Ellwood Oval.
The loss see Aggies slip five points outside the top four.
Leeton then brought up their second win of the season after downing Tumut 15-12.
