Wagga MP Joe McGirr in 14-day isolation after NSW Health COVID-19 close contact decision

Dr McGirr's spokeswoman said the MP would spend the time in isolation at home in Wagga after being contacted by NSW Health on Friday afternoon.

"[Dr McGirr] is following all health advice and he has tested negative for COVID-19," she said.

Dr McGirr, who returned to Wagga from Sydney on Wednesday, is one of several MPs who are now in isolation after encountering Mr Marshall in Parliament House.

Mr Marshall tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday and was likely infected with COVID-19 at a Sydney restaurant he attended on Monday night with three other Nationals MPs, including Cootamundra MP Steph Cooke.

Mr Marshall and Ms Cooke were informed by NSW Health early on Wednesday morning that woman with COVID-19 was at the restaurant at the same time.

By that time, Mr Marshall had already attended Parliament House and a post-budget dinner with National Party MPs and senior Liberal ministers.

Wagga-based Nationals MLC Wes Fang did not attend the budget dinner.

Dr McGirr's order to self isolate was based on him being in Parliament's lower house chamber with Mr Marshall during the Treasurer's budget speech.

Ms Cooke has tested negative for COVID-19 but is still in isolation.

On Friday, NSW police fined a Victorian couple that saw a Riverina town put on the COVID-19 exposure list when they travelled through on their way to Queensland.

Parts of Sydney were put into lockdown on Friday after an outbreak continued to grow, with anybody who visited the Greater Sydney area in the past two weeks now required to wear a mask after returning home.

The Greater Sydney area includes the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong, and Shellharbour Local Government Areas.
