Rocky Creed delivered a big finish to win for the Thurgoona trainer at Menangle on Saturday.
Racing against his usual pattern, the 20-year-old was thrilled to take the win.
"It was really exciting," McPherson said.
"The big fella went really good."
McPherson was concerned after a slow first half however Rocky Creed stormed home late to win by neck in a mile rate of 1:54.3.
After group one success in last year's Regional Championships, the five-year-old struggled to get back to his best.
However after three placings in this year's series, McPherson is confident the son of Pet Rock is finally back on track.
"He's just starting to get back to it now and over the next few starts we should see the best of him," he said.
McPherson is looking to continue to race at Menangle believing the up to 80 level suits.
Meanwhile Leeton's Mick Boots is a part-owner in Bundoran who took out the free for all on the card for Amanda Turnbull.

BAKER Creek has come up with a horror draw as she looks to extend her strong start to racing in Australia.
The Ellen Bartley-trained mare will start from the outside of the front row in the Menangle Country Series final on Saturday.
Ideal Escape has drawn barrier four for Darrell Hillier.

JACKSON Painting had a big night at Wagga on Friday.
Painting drove three winners and had two close seconds from five drives.
He won with Killara Missile and A Perfect Dance for uncle David Kennedy and also combined with Gary Lang for success with Flaneur.

RONALDO just missed out in a action-packed Cowra Cup on Sunday.
Racing without cover throughout, Ronaldo finished a neck off Rock Fisherman, who led all the way for Bernie Hewitt.
After a messy start, Ronaldo was one of only four pacers to avoid early after breaking early in the score up.
Forever Yin broke early as the $3 favourite and finished fifth, beten 10.3 metres.
However there was some Riverina success on the card with Blake Micallef driving a double for Nathan Turnbull.

APPROACHING her 300th career start, Conrod Kenze showed she's still got plenty of fight in her with a breakthrough win at Canberra last week.
The 11-year-old led all the way for Coolamon trainer Peter Dennis.
It was her eighth career win from 292 starts, to go along with 56 placings, and first since July 2019.
Conrod Kenze was one of three winners on the card for former Junee driver Ashley Hart.
The mare then finished fifth at Cowra on Sunday.
