Collingullie-Glenfield Park's revival since an unexpected heavy loss to Narrandera continued with a crucial 8.5 (53) to 5.11 (41) victory against Wagga Tigers at Robertson Oval on Saturday.
The Demons kicked the only three goals of the last quarter, two to James Kennedy and the other to Nick Perryman, with the duo bagging three goal apiece.
The win squares Collingullie-Glenfield Park's season ledger at 4-4, the same as the fourth-placed Tigers, with Turvey Park just one game back in sixth.
It may be disrespectful to Narrandera, who by all reports played good football in their 57-point win over the Demons.
Since then they've won three of four games, the only loss a respectful 33-point defeat to unbeaten Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes.
The Demons lack the class of the top few teams, and their modus operandi is to try and out-scrap and out-will their rivals.
They did just that to the Tigers, the only downside an early knee injury to Blake Ryan which may sideline him for a few weeks.
"It (Narrandera defeat) was definitely the loss we needed to have to give us a kick in the bum and the boys have responded really well," Demons coach Brett Somerville said
"It just about them having that belief that we can play with anyone in the league, we just have to be willing to do it.
It's about tackle pressure and the guys being willing to do that little bit extra all the time. You'd like to think we can play more clean football, but at this stage we have got to deal with what we've got.
"The boys realise that it's going to be a scrap and that's OK, they'll enjoy it and take what we can."
IN OTHER NEWS
We're starting to get to that point, much the same as Tigers we're a young side and still learning. They're a quick side and you can see why they can challenge other teams, it was good to get the four points.
The Tigers' wasted a number of chances and made a number of unforced errors to play into the visitors' hands.
To make matters worse ruckman Tom Osmotherly was yellow carded and placed on report for a dangerous tackle on Spencer Small in the last quarter, while Charlie Bance picked up a suspected hamstring injury early in the game.
"We butchered the footy, our skills weren't at the level that they needed to be," Tigers coach Murray Stephenson said.
"They wanted it more than we did. That hurts to say, but they were definitely the hungrier side and we've got a bit of reflecting to do.
"It (Osmotherly report) was a sling tackle no doubt about it and they're trying to get that out of the game at the moment."
