McRae produced a superb drive to guide Norms Courage ($4.40) to victory for trainer Trevor White in the opener, the Rules Club Wagga NR50 Pace (2270m).
It was the start of a good day for McRae, who brought up a winning double when he steered Mastablasta ($5.00) to victory for Eric McDermott in the Wagga Picture Frames NR40 Pace (1740m).
Norms Courage started from the inside of the second row on Norms Courage but worked his way on and off the pegs a couple of times throughout the event to progress throughout the field.
McRae timed his moves to perfection and ended up finding clear air on Norms Courage rounding the final turn, before the 10-year-old did the rest, racing away for 25-metre victory.
When explaining the drive, McRae said he did not enter the race with any set plan.
"No, not at all. I was actually going to stick to the fence but the one horse didn't get out that well," McRae said.
"I ended up getting off the pegs and then ended up back on. A lot of things went my way and I was a bit lucky there and the horse was good enough to produce the goods."
McRae also enjoyed his first drive on Mastablasta, as he broke through for his first win in 12 months.
"I had never driven him before but I've drove a lot for Eric McDermott over the years and had a fair bit of success with him," he said.
"The horse had been going really well and he topped it off with a win (Tuesday) night.
"It was good to get a double, I hadn't had one for a little while."
McRae had five drives for the night for two wins, a second and a third.
Wagga trainer Paul Kahlefeldt also enjoyed a winning double, courtesy of Redbank Molly ($5.00) and Hilly ($3.90). It was Redbank Molly's second win in a week after scoring her maiden success at Leeton last Friday.
The win on Hilly brought up a driving double for James McPherson, who scored on Tungsten Terror ($2.60) earlier in the night.
