The Newell Highway is closed in both directions and a man has been freed from a car wreck after a crash involving a truck in the southern Riverina late on Friday morning.

Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the scene north of Jerilderie near Showground Road just after 11am.
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said they sent three crews after reports of a truck and car crash.
"There is a male in his forties with a head injury and chest pain. He was initially trapped but has since been freed," they said.
"There is a female with arm pain and another male with no injuries. All have been transported to Jerilderie Hospital, all stable."

"They were out relatively quickly and being treated," he said.
"There was a small oil spill that was cleaned up too. Great work between all the emergency services once again."
The major highway is now closed in both directions, with diversions in cplace adding 45 minutes to the trip.
"Northbound motorists are being diverted via Oaklands Road, Palmer Forest Road, Back Berrigan Road, Cocketgedong Road and Old Urana Road to rejoin the Newell Highway," The NSW Transport Management Centre said.
"The southbound diversion is the same in reverse."
