"Several attempts were undertaken to keep this individual alive but unfortunately he succumbed to his [head and internal] inquiries."
Inspector Telfer said a crime scene was established and the 31-year-old man who was behind the wheel of the car was taken to hospital for mandatory alcohol or drug testing.
He said they could not confirm yet if charges will be laid as they are still investigating.
Inspector Telfer said that their initial investigations show the driver was crossing the road at the time of the collision.
"The individual [the driver] was quite traumatised," he said. "It's a very confronting experience for him and we are working with him and also supporting him as well."
Inspector Telfer said it was a confronting incident, especially for the family of the pedestrian.
