Kyle Sands, whose listed address is Tolland, was convicted on Tuesday of two counts of assaulting an officer in the execution of duty, reckless wounding, wielding a knife in a public place and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The 21-year-old man was arrested on December 18 after police were called to a street in Lake Albert.
Documents tendered to Wagga Local Court revealed that Sands had been drinking with friends and family while an unrelated house party went on across the street.
IN OTHER NEWS:
That night, after a short interaction, Sands struck a man over the head with a glass bottle. The victim, who Sands did not know, required stitches.
Sands then grabbed a knife from his own home before running back out onto the street, with relatives having to hold him back.
When officers tried to arrest Sands at the scene, he pushed back against them and shouted insults.
Several police officers were required to restrain him, telling him to "get on the ground".
Court documents stated that when Sands was handcuffed, he spat directly onto the face of a constable, causing officers to force his head towards the ground to prevent him from spitting on more police.
Later on, he then spat on the leg and boot of another police officer.
Magistrate Christopher Halburd handed down an 18-month intensive correction order (ICO) with additional conditions.
These included home detention for four months, 100 hours of community service and abstinence from alcohol and drugs for the period of the ICO.
