Winter missed North Wagga's win over Charles Sturt University on Saturday due to a knee injury he sustained in the Saints' shock loss to Northern Jets the week before.
Winter received the results of his scan this week, which revealed bone bruising to his knee.
It was good news for the Saints' prime mover, who could return as soon as Saturday for North Wagga's important showdown with The Rock-Yerong Creek at McPherson Oval.
"It's bone bruising, thankfully," Winter said.
"I've been running around on it now and it will be a week-to-week thing.
"I'm not sure if I'll be able to play this week or anything yet, it's just going to be one of those things.
"At this stage I can't do any more harm to it, it will just be a pain barrier thing and hope it heals."
Winter admitted he will err on the side of caution this week if he does not believe he is right to play. The Saints have two byes, a club and then general, after this weekend's game before next facing Temora at home on June 19.
"I'm probably 50-50," Winter said.
"If I'm not up to it, obviously I won't play. It's a big game this weekend and I don't want to risk it."

The Saints sit in third spot heading into round eight with five wins and two losses. They only have the Magpies clash to finish the opening round, where they hope to hit the halfway mark in the top three.
TRYC won't be easy. They have only had the one loss this year and come into Saturday fresh from the bye. The winner is likely to sit in second spot at the halfway mark and Winter is fully aware of the significance of Saturday's game.
"They're obviously a top three side and they have shown that through the first half of the season," he said.
"We've got two weeks off after this so it would be nice, in terms of confidence, to go in with a win and it's a good chance to set up a top three finish for the back end of the year."
Winter is the only prospective change for the Saints, who are otherwise likely to go in with the same team that downed CSU by 62 points last weekend.
Meantime, Marrar won't know the extend of Rory Block's knee injury until next week.
Block came from the ground with a knee injury in the opening minutes of the win over Coleambally last Saturday.
Block is due to get scans later in the week with the Bombers enjoying the bye this weekend.
