The Lacin family are hoping to open Starvin' Pizza Bar in the first or second week of June, and once it does it will be open for seven days a week from 4pm for dine-in, take-away, and deliveries.
It will be the fifth joint business venture the husband and wife team have started in Wagga, having previously owned Sam's Kebabs in Sturt Mall, oTTo Pizzeria in Southcity shopping centre and Baylis Street, and Sanjos on Baylis Street.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Alison Lacin said running a business together with her husband Gokhan Lacin had been a dream of hers ever since they met and fell in love at university.
"It's a bit of a love story, really. The only reason why oTTo was opened back in '07 was because we wanted to work together, so we created something that allowed us to work together everyday," Mrs Lacin said.
"We work as a good team. There's areas he does best, there's areas I do best, and work on them together. We enjoyed it because we did it together."
Mr Lacin started working at pizza parlours when he first came to Australia in 1997 from Turkey, working in the kitchens while juggling school and then university.
He said he grew attached to the industry as a young man, and is hoping to provide that same experience to young people looking to get their first start in life.
"In the first week of advertising for jobs we've got over 60 resumes, which shows there's a lot of people looking for work," Mr Lacin said.
"During COVID a lot of people lost their jobs, so we're excited to provide employment to at least 25 people."
The two of them will be running the shop while raising their seven-month old Eva and their 4-year-old Rocco.
The shop will specialise in pizza, but will also sell pasta, chicken wings, kebabs, baked potatoes, and other food.
