But in a match reserved only for the purists, the Demons' 3.9 (27) to 3.7 (25) win was exactly the backs-to-the-wall, desperate and gritty win coach Brett Somerville was looking for after last week's embarrassing display against Narrandera.
The hosts played the second half with no one on the bench after Nick Kennedy (hamstring), James Pope (hamstring) and Dusty Rogers (ankle) succumbed to injury.
Up by just two points and playing into the wind heading into the last term, the Demons kept the Bulldogs goalless to move into fifth spot with a 2-3 record, while the Bulldogs fell to 1-3.
The form line suggested Turvey Park would be too strong after belting Narrandera by 121 points the week before the Eagles shocked the Demons by 57.
But he conditions played into Collingullie-Glenfield Park's hands, allowing them to turn it into a scrap.
Somerville demanded during the week his side's application and endeavour improve against the Bulldogs, and they delivered.
"On a nicer day we may not have got near them. But from our point of view after what happened last week, it's how we wanted them to respond," he said.
"Our tackling was great to watch. To win by two points says we didn't do anything spectacular but we were backs against the wall - it was 18 blokes willing their way through it, and it was bloody pleasing to see really.
"The will of the boys, it was that response we needed after last week."

The Demons restricted the Bulldogs to one goal when it was their turn with the wind in the second quarter, but couldn't capitalise in the third term, conceding two goals to one.
It meant it was all hands on deck for the fourth quarter, where neither team could manage a goal.
The win was vital for the Demons in the race for fifth spot, which seems wide open this year behind top for teams Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes, Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong, Coolamon and Wagga Tigers.
They also prevailed without some key personnel, including Daniel Frawley and Blake Harper.
"We're hanging out for our bye this week, which could help in getting a few back and rest the bodies who have been copping the brunt," Somerville said.
Turvey Park will look to bounce back at home against Leeton-Whitton next week.
