Blamey film to be made

RESEARCHING one of the region’s most famous identities Field Marshal Sir Thomas Blamey are film researchers Bill Halliwell and Bernie McDonald.The duo will be in Wagga from Sunday afternoon hoping to meet with anyone who may have old photographs, documents, press clippings or other memorabilia to put together for a film project.Award-winning Australian film-maker Geoffrey Wright is creating a documentary about the colourful and fascinating life of Field Marshal Blamey and has a personal interest in the story, as his father was one of Field Marshal Blamey’s drivers/batmen during World War II.Sir Thomas Blamey, who was born at Lake Albert, was Australia’s highest ranking army officer and Australia’s only field marshal.When Blamey left his home on the shores of Lake Albert he headed for Western Australia and became a pupil-teacher, and later qualified as a fully fledged teacher.If you have any information or memorabilia of Field Marshal Blamey, Bill or Bernie would love to hear from you.
