Running on Saturday May 15, Wagga's Turvey Park station will be open to families and members of the community to come and meet the local crew and even try their hand at some of the famous tools deployed in the service.
Turvey Park Station Chief Justin Bentley welcomed the return of the day, saying for the fire service, the opportunity to meet and great is extra important.

"The firefighters on shift are always excited to welcome people in," he said. "In a lifetime most people will have interactions with police or the ambulance service but people can go their whole lives never interacting with their fire service and understanding who we are and what we do, so it gives people and the crews the opportunity to fly the flag in the community."
On the program is a little something for everyone, with a free sausage sizzle and plenty of activities as well as some all-important fire safety advice to take home.
"Open day is great for the kids, and it brings out the kid in everyone," he said. "Sometimes you get kids coming along who are maybe a bit scared and mum and dad are far more keen to get in the fire truck and have a go."
"It's a family orientated thing, there's plenty of giveaways, there's bits and pieces for the kids, getting in the truck having a go of the hose, and then there's information in the background for the parents on home safety."
This year, visitors will also be able to get into the shoes of a firefighter, with a simulation search and rescue set up in the backyard to give the community an idea of how the crews deploy search and rescue operations.
Last year's event was cancelled due to COVID, making the Open Day the station's first since the devastating 2020 bushfire season.
Fire Service NSW's Turvey Park Fire Station will be open from 10am to 2pm on May 15.
