After a win and a loss on the road, the Wanderers took to Rawlings Park with good support, looking to get ahead of the ledger against their unbeaten Canberra opponents.
But the visitors were quick to make their mark on the contest and from there the Wanderers were always playing catch up, eventually going down 4-0.
Gungahlin led 3-0 at half-time before a long range Erika Pennyfield free kick midway through the second half sealed the win.
Wagga City Wanderers coach Sam Gray was disappointed the game was out of reach so early.
"The second half was much better," Gray said.
"When the game is gone from you by half-time, it's a hard challenge to get back in it.
"A couple of positional things that maybe I can take part of the blame for, they didn't work, but at the same time, the second half was much better and there was good improvement."

Last year's joint Leonard Cup Player of the Year, Kirrilee Cameron, was a standout in defeat for the Wanderers, while her midfield partner Bronte Buik also worked very hard.
Gray insisted the standard of the NPL competition ensures things are never easy but he is confident they can improve on Sunday's showing.
"The first half we just sat too high and they pinged the ball over the top. Three times," he said.
"We can play better than that. It's challenging. But the competition we're in, the girls are focused and make sure we continue to build. As a pathway for girls football, that's why we exist."
Gray also thanked for the Wagga football community for getting behind his team with a general bye in the local competitions.
"We were grateful for the support today, it was great," he said.
