A brick house on Fernleigh Road, Ashmont, caught alight just after midnight on Tuesday as firefighters from Turvey Park Fire and Rescue rushed to the scene.
In a statement from the Riverina Police District, they said while the blaze was not being treated as suspicious, "investigations are continuing".
"Officers from Riverina Police District attended [the scene of the fire] and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the blaze," the statement said.
The home's roof had collapsed and front windows exploded, but the sole occupant at the time was able to escape mostly unharmed.
It took crews about two hours to fully extinguish the flames, which had penetrated the timber framing inside the brick veneer home.
