POLICE have launched an investigation into the robbery and assault of a man in Wagga at the weekend.

A 40-year-old man told police he was walking along Gurwood Street about 7.15pm on Sunday when he was approached and physically assaulted by a group of men.
The offenders stole the man's wallet, containing cash and credit cards, before leaving north along Gurwood street and turning onto Trail Street.
The incident was reported to the Riverina Police District who have launched an investigation.

Detectives would like to speak to a number of people who may be able to assist with inquiries.
The first man is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, in his late teens or early 20s, of slim build and about 180cm tall. He was seen wearing red basketball shorts, a black jumper and white adidas shoes.
The second man is described as being in his late teens or early 20s, of slim build and about 180cm tall. He was seen wearing dark tracksuit pants.
The third man is described as being in his late teens or early 20s, of slim build and about 165cm tall. He was seen wearing a dark oversized t-shirt.
The fourth man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, in his late teens or early 20s, of solid build with light brown hair shaved on one side. He was seen wearing black shoes.
Investigators are appealing for witnesses, including a woman they have been told called out to the group, or anyone with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
