Sizzling Cat ($4.20) will head towards the $80,000 MTC Guineas after an impressive victory in the Ruby Tuesday Class Two Handicap (1400m) at Wagga.
The lightly-raced three-year-old had shown plenty of promise in his first seven starts but took the next step on Monday by disposing of a competitive field.
Jockey Adrian Layt found a position three-wide with cover from one of the outside gates and did not waste any time putting Sizzling Cat into the race early in the straight.
He loomed up outside race leader Hellova Night and eventually wore him down, going on to score by three quarters of a length.
It was a good start to a big week for Wagga trainer Gary Colvin, who has Another One competing in the $500,000 Country Championships Final (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.
Colvin was pleased to see Sizzling Cat register his second win.
"Very happy actually. He's been knocking on the door," Colvin said.
"For some reason in his head, he's not jumping and getting in the race so I said to Adrian, get him out and get him going. I don't care where you end up.
"He let down well. He's got a bit of ability, this horse. He's only immature, he's starting to mature a little bit and that was good for him. To have cover and hit the line."

Colvin believes the MTC Guineas over the 1600 metres will be perfect for Sizzling Cat.
"He's a real mile horse," he said.
"We're going to the Guineas. We'll give him another run, probably in the prelude but he's definitely a mile horse.
"He's just been a bit unlucky so it was good to see him put it together today."
Bombardeo ($13) worked home into second behind Sizzling Cat, with Hellova Night ($6.50) third.
While it started a big week in the right fashion, Colvin said it was a good ending to a bad day that saw Tully Toff a late scratching.
Tully Toff cut his leg on the truck crossing the road to the track.
Meantime, the Tom Dabernig and Ben Hayes stable have big things in mind for Dundeel colt Azaly ($3.70) after his win in the Avis Benchmark 66 Handicap (1800m).
The three-year-old scored his second win at start number eight and provided jockey Blaike McDougall with a winning double in the process.
"He's got a little bit of class about him," stable foreman Richard Nettleton said.
"The stable have got bigger plans for him. Maybe the Derby in Adelaide, that's the goal if all goes well. He had to win today to warrant going onto that.
"He still had a bit of a blow so there is improvement there."
