The 37-year-old will be airlifted from Griffith after a rescue helicopter was called in to support crews of paramedics in the wake of the accident, which occurred soon before 10am.

The man was repairing a spreader on a farm off Hutchings Road, south of Coleambally, when it fell, pinning him between it and the cab of a truck.

He was quickly freed by a friend who heard him screaming, Murrumbidgee duty operations manager for NSW Ambulance Markus Zarins said.

"(He was between) the cabin of a ute and the spreader, and for some reason it's come down and pinned him between a bin and the cabin of the truck," he said.

"A friend ... heard screaming, ran in and raised the cab."

The man passed out briefly and when paramedics arrived complained of crushing and bruising injuries to his chest and back, as well as pain down his left arm.

If it weren't for the friend coming to the rescue so swiftly, the situation could easily have been much worse.

"He's a very lucky boy," Mr Zarins said, adding it drives home the dangers of working alone on farm.

"(It's important) to always have somebody who knows where you are, or preferably with you."

The man was taken by road ambulance to Griffith Base Hospital in a serious condition and will meet the rescue helicopter, which was initially tasked to Coleambally before diverting to Griffith.
