Sam Roberts to ride 300 kilometres to Coolamon for Love Your Sister charity

Mr Roberts originally picked up cycling for fitness, sparking a passion for charity rides.

"I started just mountain biking, then I got a road bike and I haven't looked back," he said.

After participating in group rides of up to 200 kilometres, Mr Roberts will be up at 5am on Friday to begin the ride from his Orange home to his parents' Coolamon caravan park with his partner driving behind him.

Mr Roberts said he was nervous to attempt the longest ride he had ever done, but he had spent plenty of time preparing.

"I've done heaps of training, in the last two months I've ridden over 2000 kilometres," he said.

Having recently lost his last living grandparent to cancer, Mr Roberts said he wanted to help fund cancer research so his children could have more options available.

"I suppose it'd be great if they found some cures for cancer in my lifetime," he said.

Having followed Australian actor Samuel Johnson's world record-breaking unicycle ride to support his late sister Connie, Mr Roberts decided to raise funds for the actor's Love Your Sister charity.

He said the support from his family had been "sensational," with almost $2000 raised so far which will go to various cancer research organisations through Love Your Sister.

"My siblings have been great, Mum and Dad are awesome," he said.

"I just want to thank everyone that's supported me and donated to this charity."

His father is planning on joining him for the last 30 kilometres as Mr Roberts heads into town Friday evening, after a journey he hopes will take about 12 hours with good wind conditions.
